form. Among the type of moves one will learn are positions. Here is a brief
description of a few basic positions that one will learn in class.
Students will learn mounts as a part of their training. The
mount is one of the more popular positions and is not one a person would want
to find themselves in. In this position one person is lying flat on their back
while the other is sitting on top with their legs on either side of the person
on the bottom. Holds and chokes can be easily applied from this position.
Another position a student may learn is the guard. In this
position a person is lying flat on their back with their legs wrapped around
their opponents back. Legs can be squeezed together to apply pressure to the
opponent’s sides and ribs. Chokes and holds can be applied from this position
also.
A student may also learn the scarf hold position in a
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Western New York class. This position is performed when a
person sits next to an opponent while the opponent is lying on their back. The
person sits with their back up against the opponent’s side and then puts their
arm around the neck of the opponent.
If you are looking for something different and unique that
will get you in shape and teach self-defense skills, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu may be
