Mixed Martial Arts Western New York

Mixed martial arts, popularly referred to as MMA, is a full contact combat sport that allows for a wide variety of techniques and skills by incorporating the use of a mixture of martial arts traditions in competition.

The earliest recorded mixed martial arts competitions date back to the early 1900s and took place in Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim. The games originated through the notion of matching combatants with various martial arts backgrounds against one another in order to determine the most effective form of martial arts for unarmed combat.

In 1993, the formation of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) introduced modern day MMA competitions. Changes in rules and regulations provided added safety for competitors and led to a wider acceptance of MMA as a mainstream sport.

Since the early 1900s, mixed martial arts competitions have evolved greatly, yet they still remain true to their original school of thought—pit varying martial arts forms against one another and see which man will be victorious.

MMA Techniques
