Kickboxing in WNY is composed of several stand-up combat and martial arts sports. They are all based on punching and kicking. Historically this sport originated from Western boxing, Muay Thai and Karate. It is therefore considered a combination of various traditional styles. When it comes to kickboxing WNY is one of the best places to learn techniques.



The sport started around the 60s in Japan while in America it began in the 70s. This sport has contributed to the emergence of other fighting techniques that exist today. This includes jujutsu and mixed martial arts. Techniques such as ground fighting and collegiate wrestling are also hybrids that developed from this sport.



There are different rules that govern the sport depending on where it is practiced. Generally participants are allowed to strike each other using their legs and hands. Use of elbows and shins is forbidden. Each round is usually about 2 to 3 minutes long. In between rounds players are allowed to rest.



There are several reasons why this sport is important. You can learn its techniques so as to gain skills of self-defense. It also helps the individuals to get fit and to build muscles. This is because it involves movements that exercise the whole body. Practicing the various techniques involved will make you very flexible.



The sport is also very interesting and some people participate in it as their hobby. Its advisable to participate in this activity to maintain general fitness. It is however not offered for children.
